The Nelson Regional Development Agency is financially supported by the Nelson City Council. It is a Council Controlled Organisation as defined in Section 6 of the Local Government Act 2002.
The Nelson Regional Development Agency is supported by the Tasman District Council by way of an annual financial contribution.
Our Regional Business Partners
The Regional Business Partner network is supported by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) and Callaghan Innovation. Regional Business Partners are part of a nationwide network of organisations which can help businesses access information, funding and training and development services. The network was established to support business growth and innovation in New Zealand’s regions.
New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) services are designed to support businesses to grow and succeed internationally and are focused primarily on refining strategy, improving performance, building global networks, and in-market support for business development. Services are available for different stages of a business lifecycle. Some services are provided directly by NZTE staff in New Zealand and around the world, while others are provided through external organisations such as Regional Business Partners which are funded by NZTE.
Callaghan Innovation is a crown entity charged with accelerating commercialisation of innovation by firms in New Zealand. Callaghan Innovation offers products and services that increase potential to innovate and help convert that potential into commercial success. Through the Regional Business Partners businesses can access R&D grant funding programmes, Global Expert services and Better by Lean.

EDANZ is the ‘national voice’ of Economic Development Agencies (EDAs). As the professional organization for EDAs, EDANZ has 13 key regional members who make up the Board and more than 50 EDAs that work in smaller areas. This means EDANZ represents more than 60 EDAs around the country. In addition, EDANZ has an associate membership base of other agencies and organisations which have an interest in economic development in New Zealand. As a result, EDANZ can tap into tremendous amounts of knowledge and practical expertise in the economic field.
The vision of EDANZ is “that Economic Development Agencies are seen as the primary mechanism for delivering economic development solutions in New Zealand and that economic development is a priority focus for local and central government investment”.
The Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce has been in the business of encouraging regional development and representing the region’s wealth creators – its businesses, since 1858.
Today more than 450 member companies, which range from major corporations to sole traders, continue to benefit from the broad pro-business policy platform promoted by the Chamber and the close personal networks and contact membership brings.
