HealthPost Nature Trust
Built in 2020, the three-hectare predator-proofed Wharariki Ecosanctuary is sited on the stunning and unique clifftops at Cape Farewell. Following the successful translocation of more than 100 Pakahā fluttering shearwater chicks in January 2022 and 2023, the HealthPost Nature Trust is collaborating with local iwi, the Department of Conservation and community volunteers to control predators and reintroduce threatened plant and animal species.
Working bees are held monthly and generally involve planting trees or weeding. At certain times of the year, visitors may also be able to view or participate in the translocation work, however, this depends on visitor skills and volunteer availability.
